We all know that feeling on January 1st, after we have done “too much”: too much food, too much staying up, too much drinking…
Enough! We want to improve our lives! Do you recognize this? I do! So we start with good intentions. Diet, exercise and many more plans; being strict with ourselves.
Around this time, mid-January, chances are that we have already broken some of these good intentions. And by the end of the quarter we feel like we are back to square one. Do you recognize this?
What if there is a way to implement Good Intentions more easily? What if there is a Magic Bullet to actually change your life? This Magic Bullet is called “Discipline”. You may think this answer is ridiculous, but read on…
What if we change our perspective on discipline? Often we think of discipline as punishment, being hard on ourselves, not having fun… We want to change that perspective: from punishment to training. Our LYDIA Connect definition of discipline is: “Training to stimulate a certain pattern or behaviour”. Let’s dive a little deeper into this with an example.
Let’s be honest, going on a diet is a punishment if you ask me… But what if we rephrase it to something that changes our behaviour? Instead of “going on a diet”, we say: “I want to be able to move freely, have more fun and energy; to achieve that I need to lose a few pounds”. Then we train ourselves to achieve the goal of more fun! Or would you rather punish yourself with pounds?!
As always, whoever writes this, is also preaching to themselves! So join me in changing our perspective together and training ourselves. I want more fun and energy, do you?
